Entering students with AP English credit are strongly encouraged to take a 200-level First-Year Writing course (Engl 200, Honrs 200, or Phil 200).  Studies show that doing so contributes greatly to their success at the university.  As part of their major requirements, some departments also require a First-Year Writing course even for students with AP English credit.
