Spring/Summer Visiting Student Program

Brigham Young University is pleased to invite students to participate in the Spring/Summer Visiting Student Program.  Participants can learn in an environment that is "spiritually strengthening, intellectually enlarging, and character building."

High school graduates who are actively pursuing a degree at another college or university can experience BYU with academics approaching the recommended guidelines:

ACT: 18 or higher
High School GPA: 2.50 or higher

Students who have completed 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of college credit need only provide a college transcript. To be competitive, transfer applicants should have around a 2.50 GPA or higher. If you have already earned a bachelor's degree, you are not eligible for the Visiting Student Program, but you may apply as a Post-Baccalaureate student.

Applicants can choose from three enrollment options: spring term only, summer term only, or both spring and summer terms.
Courses completed as part of the program will earn university credit.

For a list of current classes offered during spring and summer terms, click here for the class schedule. For a list of suggested classes for visiting students, please click on the following link: http://ccc.byu.edu/uac/summerStudent.php.

Admission and enrollment in the Spring/Summer Visiting Student Program does not in any way imply continued enrollment at either BYU campus beyond summer term. Students wanting to pursue a degree at BYU must submit an application for undergraduate admission and meet the admission criteria in effect at the time of application.

Application Process

In order to apply as a visiting student, the following materials must be submitted to the Admissions Office:

  • Parts 1, 2, and 3 of the undergraduate application
  • A $30 nonrefundable one-time application fee.
  • A high school transcript and ACT score and/or college transcripts

The undergraduate application can be found here.

Application Deadlines

There is no official application deadline for this program. However, students are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible because admission takes place on a first-come, first-served basis. The sooner an application is received, the sooner admission can be finalized. Please apply early.

Shortly after submitting an application with the accompanying fee, students will receive a letter from the appropriate BYU Admissions Office confirming their admission status. Next, registration and tuition information will be mailed directly to each student. The student will then register for classes via the Internet.

International Visiting Student Information Sheet

In addition to the regular visiting student application, international students must also submit the following to complete the application for BYU Provo:

  • Completed Finances (click here to download)
  • A passing TOEFL score (from non-native English speakers):
    • Paper exam minimum of 500 (with a 50 in each subsection)
    • Computer exam minimum of 173 (with a 17 in each subsection)

Although there is not a deadline for the Visiting Student application, International Students are encouraged to submit their application by March 15th to ensure the necessary time to process their immigration and visa paperwork.

Cost

Tuition for spring and summer visiting students will be assessed at the current BYU student rate. To obtain current tuition rates, click here.

Housing

Students participating in the Spring/Summer Visiting Student Program may live either on or off campus. Arrangements for housing should be made with the On-Campus Housing Office or with the individual landlords of off-campus apartments. More specific information can be obtained by contacting the appropriate On-Campus or Off-Campus Housing Office.

Please note that BYU degree-seeking students will receive first consideration for on-campus housing.

Scholarships, Financial Aid, and Employment

Students enrolled in the Spring/Summer Visiting Student Program are not eligible for federal financial aid or scholarships at either BYU campus. Students will, however, be eligible for on-campus jobs. For more information, contact Student Employment Services.
