This is the official accessibility statement for Preparing for BYU, a BYU-owned and operated site for prospective students.
Standards Compliance
- All pages on this site attempt to comply wih all priority 1, 2, and 3 guidelines of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. There is no guarantee, however, that every page complies entirely.
- All pages on this site attempt to comply with U.S. Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines.
- All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for sidebar and content headers. H2, H3, and H4 tags are used for titles and subtitles.
Navigation Aids
- All pages have links that allow users with text-only browsers to navigate directly to the sidebars or to the content.
- The navigation on this site is designed in a tabbed fashion to help users identify quickly and easily the section in which they are located.
- All pages on this site include a search box (access keys).
- Breadcrumb navigation is provided at the top of the page to help users quickly and easily identify their current location relative to the rest of the site.
- A site map is also provided as an aid to help users find their way around the site.
Links
- The majority of the links on this site are intuitive, which is why title attributes are not included.
- Links are written to make sense out of context.
- Two very differnt link styles apply to each of the text links found within the sidebars and main content areas of the site to help users visually identify those links.
Images
- With a few exceptions, all content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.
Visual Design
- This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
- This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
- Colors were used throughout this site to help users identify differences between various sections of this site. Each main section of the site has its own unique color theme.
