Certificate of Language Proficiency in Russian (9 hours)
Any full-time BYU student who meets the proficiency and course requirements may earn the Certificate in Language Proficiency. The proficiency requirement is met through the nationally recognized ACTFL Oral and Writing Proficiency Exams. Qualifying students will be awarded a certificate on one of three levels:
- Advanced Certificate: ACTFL Oral/Writing average score of at least "Advanced Mid" and 9 hours of course work at the B level.
- Mastery Certificate: ACTFL Oral/Writing average score of at least "Advanced High" and 9 hours of course work at the B level.
- Professional Certificate: ACTFL Oral/Writing average score of at least "Superior" and 9 hours of course work at the B level.
Students are responsible for all fees requred to sit for the ACTFL exams (approximately $200) which may be taken only at those times specified by ACTFL testers. Students may pay for repeat ACTFL tests as often as they would like in order to earn a higher certification.

RUSS 323 : Russian Phonetics and Pronunciation.

| DESCRIPTION:  | Perfecting speaking and listening skills through phonetics and applied speaking and listening techniques. |

RUSS 330 : Cultural History of Russia.

RUSS 343 : Masterpieces of Russian Film.

RUSS 340 : Masterpieces of the Russian Novel in English.

| DESCRIPTION:  | Survey of Russian novels by such authors as Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Pasternak. |
Students who successfully complete a certificate will receive an official document verifying their level of achievement. The certificate will be listed on the university transcript.
