This is a limited-enrollment program requiring program admissions approval. Please see the College of Fine Arts and Communications Advisement Center for information regarding requirements for admission to this major.

  1. Taped entrance auditions are due via mail by November 15. From the taped entrance auditions, approximately 30 potential students are selected to attend live auditions/interviews on the Provo campus the last Saturday of January. An incoming class of about 16 students is then selected from the 30 finalists. Full audition instructions are available on the MDT website at http://cfacbeta.byu.edu/departments/music/mdt/.

  2. Pass a proficiency examination in each of the three areas at the end of each semester.

  3. The School of Music requires a minimum of 40 hours to be taken in residence at BYU for this degree program. These hours may also go toward BYU's 30-hour residency requirement for graduation.

  4. Any grade below C– in major courses is not acceptable for graduation. Dance technique courses require a minimum grade of B– for advancement to the next level.
