Certificate of Language Proficiency in Korean (9 hours)
This Language Certificate program is administered by the Center for Language Studies (3086 JFSB), http://languagecertificate.byu.edu.
Any matriculated (degree-seeking) BYU student who meets the proficiency and course requirements may earn the Certificate of Language Proficiency (Language Certificate). The proficiency requirement is met through the nationally recognized ACTFL Oral and Writing Proficiency Exams. Qualifying students will be awarded a certificate on one of three levels based on the following:
- Advanced Certificate: An ACTFL "Advanced" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.
- Mastery Certificate: An ACTFL "Advanced High" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.
- Professional Certificate: An ACTFL "Superior" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.

KOREA 321 : Selected Readings of Modern Korean.

| DESCRIPTION:  | Mixed script (with hanja) and other readings from modern documentary and literary texts, emphasizing comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary building. |
KOREA 441 : Classical Korean (Hanmun).

| DESCRIPTION:  | Reading of premodern, documentary Sino-Korean texts, including genealogy records and the Chosŏn Dynasty Annals. |
Students who successfully complete a certificate will receive an official document verifying their level of achievement. The certificate will be listed on the university transcript.
