Certificate of Language Proficiency in Russian (9 hours)
This Language Certificate program is administered by The Center for Language Studies (3086 JFSB), http://languagecertificate.byu.edu.
Any matriculated (degree-seeking) BYU student who meets the proficiency and course requirements may earn the Certificate of Language Proficiency (Language Certificate). The proficiency requirement is met through the nationally recognized ACTFL Oral and Writing Proficiency Exams. Qualifying students will be awarded a certificate on one of three levels based on the following:
- Advanced Certificate: An ACTFL "Advanced" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.
- Mastery Certificate: An ACTFL "Advanced High" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.
- Professional Certificate: An ACTFL "Superior" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.

Note: Students who have completed all of the coursework required for a language major or a language minor will also have satisfied the coursework requirement for the language certificate.

RUSS 322 : Third-Year Russian Part 2.

| DESCRIPTION:  | Grammar and composition, case government, listening and speaking skills. |
RUSS 323 : Russian Phonology and Morphology.

| PREREQUISITE: | RUSS 321 |
| DESCRIPTION:  | Perfecting speaking and listening skills through phonetics and applied speaking and listening techniques. Better understanding and using the structures of Russian through studying morphology and historical phonology. |
- Civilization - complete one course from the following:
RUSS 330 : Cultural History of Russia.

RUSS 343 : Masterpieces of Russian Film.

| DESCRIPTION:  | Developing listening comprehension and speaking skills through discussing Russian films. Includes International Cinema. |

RUSS 340 : Masterpieces of the Russian Novel in English.

| DESCRIPTION:  | Survey of Russian novels by such authors as Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Pasternak. |
Students who successfully complete a certificate will receive an official document verifying their level of achievement. The certificate will be listed on the university transcript.
