BM in Music Education: Elementary Music Specialist Emphasis
(120 hours*, including licensure hours)

This major is designed to prepare students to teach in public schools. In order to graduate with this major, students are required to complete Utah State Office of Education licensing requirements. A five-year program, the degree offers a dual major in elementary music education and elementary education. It will also prepare the student for licensure as an elementary classroom teacher and as an elementary music specialist. Graduates may obtain a teaching position in either area or a combination of both, pursue graduate work, or use the degree as preparation for other fields of endeavor.

2. Grades below C- in professional education courses or content courses will not be accepted in the teaching major or teaching minor. Teacher candidates must have a cumulative 2.85 GPA in teaching major and teaching minor courses to qualify for student teaching.
3. Proficiency requirements: Present a juried recital (Music 249) in the last semester of private instruction. Students must prepare a minimum of 18 minutes of music to be performed in a formal public recital. Students will schedule a joint recital in groups of three or fewer.
