The federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) is a loan
that a parent may obtain on behalf of a dependent undergraduate student.
Eligibility
In addition to the requirements in the Federal Financial Aid section,
you must:
- Be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours per
semester/ 3 hours per term) during the entire
period of your loan. These hours cannot include
audit hours, noncredit courses, challenge credit,
or independent study.
- Have your parent's credit history checked by
the lender.
- Determine your loan eligibility and be awarded
before your last day of eligible enrollment.
Payments and Limits
- Payments by the parent begin 60 days after
the final disbursement of the loan.
- Your parent may obtain a PLUS in addition to
other student loans you may receive.
- Total financial aid cannot exceed the cost
of your education.
- Checks made copayable to both the parent and
the school will be mailed to the school, where
eligibility will be confirmed and the checks
forwarded to the parent.
