Welcome to the Bachelor of General Studies
The Bachelor of General Studies program is designed to help you finish at home what you started at BYU. Apply previously earned credit and complete the rest of your degree from anywhere in the world through taking BYU Independent Study courses. As a BGS student, you may also take courses on campus through BYU Evening Classes, at the BYU Salt Lake Center, and during BYU spring and summer terms. Complete our simple application forms and get back on track towards your BYU graduation.
To be admissible to the Bachelor of General Studies program, applicants must have previously completed at least 30 credit hours of BYU on-campus credit in Provo as an admitted day student. For further details please visit the BGS homepage at bgs.byu.edu or call 801-422-4351.

Bachelor of General Studies
The BGS Office administers the BGS degree program. It handles applications, transfer credit, admissions, course and credit requirements, and advisement. Once you are provisionally accepted, and then formally admitted to the BGS program, you will sign up for your courses through the Independent Study Office. But if you have questions concerning your BGS admission, academic plan, program status, etc., contact the BGS Office for assistance.
