The Department of Education recently made an announcement regarding two new federal aid grant programs that will be available to BYU students who are receiving Federal Pell Grants.
On February 8, 2006, President Bush signed into law two new student grant programs—the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant. ACG and National SMART Grants are only available to undergraduate students who are also receiving Federal Pell Grants. The U.S. Department of Education provides further information on these two grants at the following site: Student Aid on the Web
If you are a Federal Pell Grant recipient and are a first or second year student click on the ACG link.
If you are a Federal Pell Grant recipient and are a third or fourth year student click on the National SMART link.
Students who are eligible for the ACG or National SMART Grants will be notified via VIP once the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office has determined that they are eligible.
Students who think they are eligible can self identify by filling out a Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FASFA) found at the following site: Student Aid on the Web
If you receive an ACG or National SMART Grant, your federally subsidized loan eligibility may be adjusted.| ACG | National SMART |
