| Deferment Form International Deferment Form Missionary Release Form |
It is our desire to help you prepare to leave the University in a manner that will allow the easiest possible transition back to BYU. The following are some points to consider:
Deferment means to postpone your eligibility to register for classes.
To defer enrollment and scholarship (if applicable) without reapplying, the following conditions should be met:
Following your mission, you must enroll at Brigham Young University within a given time period. The following shows when you must enroll:
| Return from Mission: | Enroll No Later Than: |
| October-April | Fall Semester |
| May-September | Winter Semester |
If you are registered for a future semester or term, but will be unable to attend due to your mission, you are responsible for discontinuing from the courses prior to leaving the university.
The missionary deferment form should be submitted to the BYU Admissions Office after receiving your mission call and before entering the Missionary Training Center. Fill out the “LDS Missionary Enrollment and Scholarship Deferment Application” form in the Missionary Packet or Download Deferment Form here.
International Student Missionary Deferment
The guidelines above apply to International Students. Proof of financial support is required.

No, you cannot have back-to-back deferments without attending the university between deferments.
It is best to defer as soon as you get your call.
You must attend the semester or term in which you indicated you would be returning. If you need to change your anticipated return to school, you will need to contact the Admissions Office (801-422-2507) to change your deferment date. Failure to do so will result in a loss of eligibility and dropped classes for all subsequent semesters. Reapplication to the university would be necessary,
The registration page is accessed through the Route Y system. The designee simply enters your Net ID and password on the homepage (www.byu.edu). Once they have logged on; they type MyMAP in the white Quick URL box on the upper right side of the screen. When this page loads, select the Register tab which will allow them to view the classes planned by you. They may also register for classes by clicking on the Add Classes button at the bottom of the appropriate semester/term.
If you have ever enrolled at BYU your records are protected by federal privacy laws. Therefore, we can only reset the password for another individual in one of the following ways:
Registration notices are sent out for fall and winter semesters through email indicating the priority registration day for each student based on the number of credit hours completed. Your designee should watch for the notices to appear through email or on the registration page approximately the middle of March (for fall) and the end of September (for winter). There are no priority registration dates for spring/summer terms. Registration for these terms begins the first of February.
You need to make sure your email is correct so when the priority registration dates are assigned and the email is sent out, your designee will be able to access it. Another way for them to know when your priority registration date is scheduled would be to select the Register tab on MyMAP for the appropriate semester. For spring/summer terms there are no priority dates assigned; registration for both terms for all students begins the first of February.
It would be a good idea to leave a list of classes you would like to take so the person registering for you can have some idea of what courses to register for. Planning and organizing classes on the MyMAP system before you go is another way to make it much easier for others to register for you. Simply select the courses you would like to take when you return to the university and assign the semester or term in which you would like to take them in the organize portion of MyMAP. When it comes to registering for the classes, your designee simply needs to click “Add” on each class and select the section that works best with your schedule. (The class schedule and catalog are online so you or your designee may refer to it in selecting classes.)
It is best to make sure there are no holds on your record to prevent your registration before you leave. If you were on academic warning or probation your last semester at BYU, you will have a hold that prevents registration. You will need to work with the Academic Support Office (801-422-2723) to have this hold removed. There are other holds that also will prevent registration. We STRONGLY suggest that you take care of this prior to leaving campus. Registration will not be available until all holds are cleared.
If you do attend another university or college before returning to BYU, you will need to reapply.
Tuition is due seven days before the first day of school. Failure to pay tuition by that date will result in an inability to add classes to your schedule unless there is financial aid pending. Failure to pay tuition by the day after the add/drop deadline will result in all classes being dropped from your schedule.
