Transfer Guides
Transfer Guides are useful tools for students looking to transfer to BYU. These guides list all of the BYU Core requirements and show students which classes from transfer schools will fill those requirements. Students can complete BYU Core requirements at another college or university by completing the corresponding courses listed in their institution's Transfer Guide, or by earning an Associate of Arts or Science degree.
Transfer Student Update: Effective Spring term 2011, Vocational or Technical Credit will not transfer to BYU or count as part of the 24-graded semester (or 36-graded quarter) hours needed to apply as a transfer student.
An Associate of Arts or Science degree will fill all BYU Core requirements except for the American Heritage, Advanced Written and Oral Communication, Languages of Learning (advanced math or foreign language options), and On-Campus Religion hour requirements. Associate degrees from certain schools may fill some of these requirements, but an official evaluation of a student's college transcript(s) must be completed to determine which requirements will still need to be filled after earning an associate degree. Since vocational or technical credit is no longer transferable to BYU, if a completed Associate of Arts or Science has more than 70% vocational credit, the degree will not be recognized by BYU as filling most of our core requirements.
A Letter of Completion can be used to fill the core requirements if a school does not offer Associate Degrees. Meet with an advisor before transferring for information regarding Letters of Completion.
