If you are applying as a transfer student with fewer than 24 credit hours, your high school information will be considered along with your college transcripts. If you were homeschooled for any part of high school, the following will apply to you:

Students who are homeschooled generally fall into two categories: traditional and accredited.

A traditional homeschooled student has not participated in an accredited program. For these applicants, there is more emphasis on the ACT score in the admission process.

An accredited homeschooled student has earned at least 15 credit hours (about two years) through an accredited program. This program could be the public education system, or any other institution accredited through one of the following regional accrediting agencies:

• Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools (MSA)
• New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC)
• North Central Association of Colleges & Schools (NCA)
• Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC)
• Southern Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS)
• Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC)

Students who have completed at least 15 credit hours in an accredited program will be evaluated just like other incoming new freshmen. Keep in mind that homeschooled students who are high school age will apply as new freshmen, regardless of how many college credits they have earned.

Neither traditional nor accredited homeschooled students are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) in order to apply to BYU.
